Crystal Waltz
A downloadable soundtrack
This is a submission for "Weekly Note Composing Jam #4" wherein participants are invited to work on a song given the prompt " the crystal castle".
When I saw the prompt, I was reminded of Peach's castle from Mario 64 and knew I wanted to do a waltz for this jam. Since it would be a waltz, that meant a 3/4 time signature and given the word "crystal" I wanted to be sure to include some bells. Because I don't normally do waltzes, I took a look at Leroy Anderson's "Belle of the Ball" to identify some waltz conventions and suitable orchestration. One thing I noticed is that the low instruments keep a simple 1-2 rhythm (makes sense since it gives dancers something to step to), so I was sure to assign that task to the Wagner Tuba and Low Brass for much of the song.
